Portuguese Classes (in LA and online)

Planning to start a group class in Culver City.

Saturdays, 3 pm

Starting on October, 15th.

I have a new group starting in Eagle Rock next Wednesday at 5:30pm.

Starting new group classes this month:

Beginner 1 –
Wednesdays evening in Echo Park
Sat/Sun in Culver City

Intermediate
Sat/Sun in Culver City

Advanced
Tuesdays in Burbank

Ready to open another one on Thursday. Location depending on demand. Also, Monday late afternoon in Pasadena/ Eagle Rock.

I just came back from Brazil. Things are better with my mom and I’m ready to start new classes.

Ready to start new group class around Koreatown on Wednesdays evening at 7:30pm.

Bad news.

Unfortunately my mother is very sick now and I need to go to Brazil ASAP. I’ll be teaching again and starting new classes in July. Hope you can wait for me. I’ll use the time I’m there to organize new schedules and get more materials.

As soon as I have enough students, I’m planning to start a conversation group on Wednesdays evening.

This class is for advanced students in which we will discuss a different theme per week.  No Grammar explanation.

New group class, beginner A and B, starting in Eagle Rock at 2pm on Mondays.

One of the biggest barriers I see in the learning process is anxiety. Some people want to learn very fast in a short time. For that reason, they easily get frustrated and end up focus in the difficulties instead of enjoying learning a new language. They forget we all have limits and boundaries.

Yes, it can be hard but if you set your mind to “this is too hard”, it becomes even harder. Go with your flow. Respect your own pace. Believe in yourself. As an immigrant, I can assure that being able to communicate in another language is fascinating AND possible.

Take advantage of the big exposure to media. There are movies, videos, music, online news, etc. Get used to listen to Portuguese even if you don’t understand. Actually, trying to understand word per word, translating every thing is not beneficial. Context is the key. I’ve taken 3 years of German. I went to Germany and I wasn’t fluent but I was glad to be able to at least understand what the conversation was about.

I believe if you dedicate time and enjoy the learning process, you will have a good time and consequently get there, even if it’s not as fast as you expect.

• Advanced on Tuesdays in Burbank at 7pm
• Beginner on Thursdays in Los Feliz at 5pm
• Beginner on Saturdays in Culver City at 4pm
